Civil Engineering students of Janabadra University again participated in the national scientific paper competition "Design Competition" in the National Paper Competition branch organized by HMS Udayana University, Saturday (6/5/2023). The team named SIJABRIK-Perintis (Sipil Janabadra Riset Klub) consisting of Raihan Iqbal Ramadhan, Muhamad Willdan and Nur Said with supervisor Dr. Nindyo Cahyo Kresnanto, ST, MT managed to qualify for the final round and competed with several other universities, such as the Bandung Institute of Technology, Brawijaya University, and the host team, Udayana University.
This competition lasted for 3 months, namely from February 6, 2023 to March 6, 2023 with the theme "Efforts to Reduce Carbon Emissions Through Revitalization of Urban Slum Areas". The competition began with abstract selection, full paper submission, selection of the 5 best papers, and the final stage was the presentation of finalists taken from the 5 best papers which was carried out offline at the Sudirman Campus of Udayana University. Based on the data obtained, the competition was attended by 20 participants from various universities in Indonesia.
The paper submitted by the SIJABRIK-Perintis team is entitled "Revitalization of Green Open Space with Citizen Science and Green Design Theory Approach : Case Study of Green Open Space in Bener Village, Yogyakarta City". The paper discusses the efforts to revitalize abandoned green open space in Bener Village which is expressed in the form of a redesign . The abandonment of the green open space is due to the incompatibility between the role of green open space and the needs of the surrounding community. In the process of making the redesign, the SIJABRIK-perintis team strives to maximize the role of local residents as citizen scientists, so that the role of green open space can later accommodate the needs of the surrounding community. The research process begins with an investigation of existing conditions, namely through drone mapping and direct observation, then continued with the creation of land cover analysis, Land Surface Temperature and NDVI. The final stage is a focus group discussion with residents to discuss the appropriate design plan, based on observations and analysis. In the competition, the SIJABRIK-Perintis team successfully entered the top 5 finalists among other finalists, namely Brawijaya University, ITB, and Udayana University. They gained a lot of experience from having the opportunity to compete with other major universities. Through this competition, the SIJABRIK-Perintis team hopes to spark a competitive climate among Janabadra University students, especially Civil Engineering students, and encourage students to not only focus on the lecture process but also dare to actualize themselves through research activities.
